The cat symbolizes the up-to-date Europe, fruit of the action of the Illustration. The Illustration has reduced the tiger -the wild and powerful beast- to cat: the small domestic who has to be nourished. The cat is a very limited tiger.
A thing is to cage the tiger: we obtain a caged tiger, limited by some external bars to him same that they deprive him of developing his forces in freedom, the beauty of his movement of king of the creation. And another very different thing is to limit the tiger from inside, to reduce him. Now any more we do not soak the bars for depriving him from freedom. He himself, the tiger become cat, is less free, he is incapable of attaining the beauty full of the movement free of the wild animal. He remembers it -he has memory of the tiger that had been- and he still knows how to hunt a bird or a lizard. He can not go very far away, however; the cat is a limited tiger. And the tiger is a cat without any limit.
