Furniture of the house Calvet (1899)

Gaudí designed the carpentry and the furniture of the offices of the ground floor, and those of the principal one where the Calvet were living. It was executed in the workshops of Casas I Bardés. The carpentry fixes of the office and of the store it is a marvel of construction and good taste, where there become condensed all the graces of the French baroque. Eduard Calvet's office desk takes recorded the Cross of Saint George and the Catalonia's four bars. Many screens of separation, windows, mirrors, banks, lamps, the counter and other elements still remain in the original place, occupied nowadays by a restaurant. Everything is done by dovetailing wood, without nails. This way, when an anarchistic bomb exploded near the house Calvet, the pieces of the furniture jumped, by what they could be reconstructed. The banks, the chairs and the furniture of the principal apartment have organic forms, of a studied ergonomic adjustment to the human body and of a vanguard elegance removed from any previous canon. The lounge, a few chairs and the coat rack of the receiver are in the house-museum Gaudí in Park Güell. Of these and of other furniture that remain in private collections, many commercial copies have been done.
