The seats of honor of Comillas (1878-1881)

Both seats and its two corresponding couches designed by Antoni Gaudí in 1878 were constructed in Eduard Puntí's workshops, in Barcelona. Probably they were done slightly later, for the inauguration of the pantheon of the Marquis of Comillas, August 28, 1881. They measure 195 x 80 x 84 cm. They are furniture of Neo Gothic taste and much elaborated manufacture. They combine three materials: wood of walnut, red velvet in the high support and the seat, and metal in the legs and in diverse applications. Two Greyhounds dogs sculptured support the arms. The columns of the support are ended in two eagles that support the shield of the marquisate of Comillas.
