The platform Calvet

The platform of the house Calvet is full of meanings. The key, placed on the principal door, has four superimposed symbols: - Two crossed branches of olive tree, which offer the peace. - Four bars, which represent Catalonia. - The cypress which, planted at the edge of the Catalan farmhouses, was symbolizing the hospitality, expressing with the trees number the available beds in the house. - The "C", initial of the proprietary family. According professor Bassegoda, as Eduard Calvet he was very fond of the mycology, the rail of wrought iron reproduces some mushrooms: cockscomb cornflags (Clathrus cancellatus), morels (Morchella híbrida) and black trumpets (Craterellus cornucopioides). The little columns inspire its forms in the bobbins, the spikes and the tapes of bed spring of the factory. They represent the work. On it there relies the happiness, symbolized by the branch of flowers of the frieze, which illuminates narcissuses (Narcisus pseudonarcisus) and marigolds (Tagetes patula). To both sides, a few bouquets of oak and of laurel might be speaking to us about the nobility, the success and the continuity. The work made with happiness gives as fruit the well-being, represented by two horns replete with pears and apples, more acquaintances for the name of cornucopia. It is the horn of the mythical goat Amaltea, where the fruits were to feed the young Zeus. But more importantly than the money it is the familiar love; and this way we find its symbol in the highest point of the dome: two turtle-doves in love.
