December 2010: Tower of Mary

After the dedication to the cult of the altar, the nave and the whole building of the Sagrada Família by Pope Benedict XVI, on 7 November, work continues. It continues especially in the top, where the central towers begin to climb, that of Jesus Christ, surrounded by four in the living of the Apocalypse, on the cruise; and that of Mary over the apse. The tower of Mary is advancing faster. Inside, is placed the hyperboloid gigantic in the dome of the apse that entering light there. There is a schematic representation of the Eternal Father, in a triangle with a large circle in the middle. There are the signs of the zodiac, symbolizing the creation of the universe, and traces of blue mosaic, representing the Father's vestments covering the vault of heaven, whose folds out cherubs. Is the vision that Gaudí wanted to represent, and that would be seen by the pilgrim immediately crossing the front door of the basilica. In anticipation of having an artist capable of doing, a Michelangelo, the architect Jordi Bonet has done, and is pretty good. For this hyperboloid of the apse was seen from the entrance, it has an inclination of 3.5 degrees and connects with the columns not horizontally, but with an inclined plane. Outwardly, it will be surrounded by the tower of Mary, which now grows decisively. This part has built with reinforced concrete, which will now be stone veneer. This is an exception to the normal procedure to first outer layer of stone, which acts as formwork of concrete is put inside.
