The pinnacles of the nave

- Until June, 2006, the most notable advance of the works of the Temple has been the placement in the nave of the first pinnacles, to more than 60 m. of height, work of the sculptor Etsuro Sotoo. They are of "trencadís" and follow meticulously the models designed by Gaudí. They represent to the Eucharist, under both species of this sacrament: the Blood and the Christ's Body. The first ones are clusters of black and white grape, wherefrom is obtained the wine that in the consecration of every mass is transubstanciated in Christ's Blood, contained in a chalice, recollection of the Holy Grail used by the same Christ in the Last Supper. The second ones are golden spikes —with a touch of red and green poppies— that lift the white host done with its wheat and that in the consecration of every mass is transubstanciated in Christ's Body, repeating also what Christ did in the Last Supper. The effect standing out against the blue sky it is spectacular, as Gaudí had foreseen. - In the covers of the nave, there have been constructed some arches that will support the crossbeams of the slabs of stones of the roof. - In the apse, there have been begun to put concrete in the vaults that close seven chapels of the deambulatory, to 30 m. of height. - There has been ended the second section of the transept of the Nativity. On the domes of 45 m. already there arise the ramifications of the columns of the dome of Saint John. And they have begun to raise eight ribs of the towers of Saint Mathew and of Saint John that, from avenue of Gaudí, they can see start standing out between the fronts of the Nativity and of the Passion. - In the front of the Glory it is continued putting concrete, and in the front of the Passion the pinnacles have been protected by a few nets during the works of restoration of the Venetian mosaic.
