The Crypt, closed

The Crypt of the Holy Family, started by the first architect, Francesc de Paula del Villar and finished by Gaudí, and where until now the cult was made, it has been closed during to the less a year. The columns of this crypt have to hold the weight of the apse of the Temple with its big tower finished in a star dedicated to Virgin, besides the turns of the crypt. The subsoil of the Eixample of Barcelona, as we known, is formed by three layers. The first substratum, of some twenty meters, are alluvial deposits of the Paleozoic, of 1,8 a million years of antique, compounds of red clay, gravel of slate and calcareous scabs. More down, there are sediments of the Pliocene. It is the remembrance of the sea that there was 4 a million ago of years, formed by clays, loams and sand. Under everything, there is the rock of the Quaternary, of an unimaginable antique. It is the granite and the slate that they outcrop in the Collserola and in the hills of Barcelona, like the Hill of the Three Crosses of the Park Güell. About the Sagrada Família, the stratum of the Paleozoic rises a lot as a result of surface. The soundings that has been made under the Crypt has obtained in few meters a fine, lovely sand of color, that it school among the hands. About her they rest the foundations made by Francesc de Paula del Villar for his project of Temple of the Holy Family, much smaller than that of Gaudí. The architects and engineers have considered necessary to reinforce these foundations before raising the monumental dome, dedicated to the Virgin, "mother bosom" of the major altar, liturgical symbol of Jesus Christ. It is a complex work, since it will be necessary to take off the columns and the walls, to take out the sand of under and to make some big new foundations. A hard work for months. The body of Gaudí waits for the resurrection in the Crypt, in the grave of the chapel of the Virgin of the Carmen. He, the Architect, continues watching from the heaven over his Temple, how he made while he was among us.
