The falcons family of the Holy Family

A family of peregrine falcons (Falco Peregrinus brookei) has established themselves in the belfry of Saint Bartholomew. At the beginning of May there have born the little chicken, which grow healthy and strong. The father was liberated in the frame of the project of reintroduction of the falcon in Barcelona, initiated in 1999; the mother comes from the natural way. The peregrine falcons had lived free in Barcelona, coexisting with the human beings, from the Middle Ages until 1973, when the last couple was shoot down, that build its nest in the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar. Every falcon eats up a dove a day. In the Temple of the Holy Family, these falcons do with the doves a work similar to that of the cat with the mice: the doves do not dare to bring over and this way they do not dirty the stones. It is sure that master Gaudí is delighted with the new inhabitants of his work.
