Josep Ribera i Sans (Tivissa, 1852 - Madrid, 1912)

Josep Ribera i Sans was born in Tivissa in 1852. He was a son of the teacher of l'Espluga de Francolí and he studied the high school to the Piarists of Reus. At school he was made friend of Eduard Toda a lot; and Anton Gaudí was added in both of them. Josep spoke to his friends of the gigantic debris of the monastery of Poblet, neighbor of the village of l'Espluga de Francolí. He liked to write novels and verses from youngster, and with Eduard Toda they make the magazine "El Arlequín", which had the drawings of Gaudí. He came off orphan at the end of 1867 and he moved to life with his uncles in Almería, where he admitted in the Partido Federal Andaluz. He studied medicine and he| obtained a doctorate in 1877. It was a surgeon of the Hospital del Niño Jesús of Madrid (1878), that afterwards he managed, professor of surgical pathology of the University of Madrid and member of the Royal Academy of Medicine. He published "Child Surgeon" (1887) and a treaty of surgical pathology (1900). He died in Madrid in 1912.
